Adobe Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is a software program originally developed by Macromedia that allows users to create and edit web pages.  The first version of Dreamweaver was released in 1997.  Macromedia was acquired by Adobe Systems in 2005.  At that time, Adobe took over the development of Dreamweaver as well as all other Macromedia products.  Adobe Dreamweaver is available for use on both Macs and PCs.  It is one of the most popular web editing programs on the market today and can be purchased online or at retail stores.

Features of Adobe Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver’s features are designed to reduce the amount of time it takes to create and update web pages.  Some of the program’s features that help streamline the web development process include a visual editor, cascading style sheets, a fluid grid layout, file management, integration with Flash and Photoshop and the ability to insert links and images into web pages.

Dreamweaver’s visual editor gives users the freedom to input and modify text, images and links without having to write the html code, which is generated automatically.  The editor has features similar to those found in popular word processing programs.  Users can also take advantage of pre-designed layouts, known as cascading style sheets, which help ensure web pages designed using Dreamweaver will work with different Internet browsers.

In addition, the fluid grid layout lets designers create web pages that adjust to fit the size of the end user’s screen, allowing pages to be compatible with different electronic devices, such as computers, mobile phones and tablets.  File management controls ensure that only one person is able to update a file at a time when more than one user has the ability to edit files.  Furthermore, files can be transferred to and from local and remote servers.

Integration with Flash and Photoshop allows Dreamweaver to optimize these file types for use on the web, and when changes are made to the original file, they are also updated in the Dreamweaver file.  In addition to Flash and Photoshop files, Dreamweaver makes it possible to link a variety of documents, images and other file types to the web pages created within the program.
